The Basilica of St Bernardino all'Osservanza

Religious Artefacts

The museum houses a number of fine religious artefacts made of silver: chalices, patens, monstrances, thuribles, censers, ciboria, aspersoria and aspergilla. Two early eighteenth-century reliquaries of the Cross increase the value of the collection. Because of the losses suffered by the friary through expropriations, other items belonging to the collection were moved to the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and to the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena.

The items that were mostly used during liturgical rites include:

The chalice

The Paten

The Ciborium

The Monstrance

The Censer

The Thurible

The Aspersorium and the Aspergillum

  • Monstrance, XVIIIth century.
